Something is really screwy with the syntax of: The Division of People Strategy, Equity & Culture.

I’ve tried adding commas: The Division of People, Strategy, Equity, & Culture.

The ‘Division of People’ is an odd thing to say given that,

"We embed the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in everything we do and are accountable to our community."

I hoped the following would disambiguate ‘The Division of People’,

"Our division builds strategic partnerships in and outside the University to attract world-class faculty and staff who contribute to the excellence that defines this institution."

I’m guessing ‘division’ here means a division of the EDI offices? But it could also mean something like we build strategic partnerships by dividing people. In fact, ‘The Division of People Strategy’ sounds like a strategy to divide people. And some believe EDI does divide people.

So, maybe try: The Division of: People Strategy, Equity & Culture.

But ‘People Strategy’ is weird. Try instead: The Division of Strategic Partnerships, Equity & Culture. This attempt is better, I think.

Yet, surely ‘The Division of’ is a redundancy that can be axed. And now ‘People, Equity & Culture’ seems to make better sense. At least syntactically. This change is of no help in deciphering the following,

"A best-in-class University needs a best-in-class People Strategy, Equity & Culture function to support it."

A People Strategy, Equity & Culture function?

Well, perhaps some of the “world-class faculty and staff who contribute to the excellence that defines this institution” can perform the “People Strategy, Equity & Culture function to” sort out the screwy syntax of “The Division of People Strategy, Equity & Culture.” And then maybe they can get around to telling us what these words mean.

"About The Division of People Strategy, Equity & Culture
