*Note: Brock University’s claim to be a “Canadian and international leader” — see my post The Gist of EDI (equity, diversity, inclusion): 1) affirmative action (on steroids!) and 2) brain drain. Pay particular attention to “(2) brain drain” regarding the competition for prestige and research dollars.
From the Social Justice Research Institute (SJRI), Brock University Homepage:
“Reporting to the Office of the Vice-President Research, the Social Justice Research Institute (SJRI) establishes Brock as a Canadian and international leader in advanced transdisciplinary social justice scholarship, innovative knowledge mobilization strategies, and community-university partnerships.
The Institute’s primary mission is to create and mobilize knowledge that addresses contemporary social problems, opens pathways to progressive social change, and ultimately, helps to build a more just society in and beyond the Niagara Region. This mission is achieved by:
1.coordinating connections among members, students, and community activists and partners;
2.providing project facilitation services including research planning, relationship building, project administration, workshop/training opportunities, and grant crafting support;
3.offering funding to support research projects, conferences, and events; and
4.editing and publishing an internationally-recognized open access transdisciplinary journal devoted to social justice scholarship and activism.”“Social Justice Research Institute, Brock University, https://brocku.ca/social-justice-research-institute/, accessed July 21, 2022″
